  • Just wanted to let you know about my experience at CraftSteak, February 18. To begin with I am a big fan of Colicchio and Top Chef. No, I did not have expectations of meeting him, I know that with chains you don't really meet the actual chef. I did however, have expectations of having a well cooked meal and good service. Especially at a restaurant where the owner judges other chefs on things that his own people cannot follow through on themselves. It was my husbands and my anniversary(my b-day and our anniversary are 2 days apart, not that it's relevant) and we were seeing a show. We had not decided where we would have dinner since earlier plans fell through. We did not have reservations but upon reading the menu, we decided to have dinner at CraftSteak. We were seated immediately in the lounge area by the walkway which was nice for people watching. Anyway, the busboy greeted us before the server but maybe this is the standard, no big deal. When the server did come and take our drink order, we didn't order wine because we were going to a show and didn't want any alcohol. Again, no issues. But for some reason, we got a different server. Again, no issues. We ordered dinner, everything was fine, although a little slow with water/soda refills. Still, no issues, we're not that picky. The first course came out, it was delicious. My husband had the shrimp cocktail and I had the quail. Both were fantastic. Then our steaks were served. This is where everything went downhill. My husband the ribeye cooked med-rare. It came out more on the med side but he ate it, said it was flavorful but the rosemary flavor was at times overpowering. It also had a lot of fat. Actually, about a quarter of his $50 steak was fat. I had the hanger steak, ordered rare. It was cooked med-well. The server didn't come back to see if everything was okay, I actually had to flag down the busboy to get her to the table. She said she would have it recooked. I asked that she give me a time frame since we were going to a show and were short on time. She didn't do this. She just brought the steak out and left. She didn't check back again to see if everything was ok. The steak was cooked blue. Not rare,..blue. At that point, I was done. Sadly, the highlight of the dinner were the appetizers and our side item which was sugar snap peas. Not the steaks or the service. The restaurants busy, I actually saw our server chatting by the computers with the other server. It would have been more forgiving if the server was busy. So for a dinner of $180.00 with tip, I expected more. Not the moon but more. Especially from a well known restaurant. I did give it 2 stars because the 1st course and the bread were good but they weren't $180 good.
