  • Hubby and I are making Red Rock Canyon one of our annual pilgrimages. :) We went last year, and enjoyed it, and enjoyed it a lot more this year because we went when it was a little bit cooler. I am lucky to be married to someone who loves driving as much as he does! Red Rock Canyon is a 13-mile scenic rive, very much like the one at Monterey. Bluntly put, you get to see a bunch of cacti, red rocks, red mountains, and dirt. But, there's just a calm majesty to it all. Also, having it just be a one-way road is just relaxing; you don't get this kind of scenery just anywhere. There can likely be a lot more people during the day, but it really depends on what season you come and what day you come. I think Sunday morning is less crowded than Saturday mid-day. There are specific parking areas where you can stop, get out of the car, look around, take pictures, and then get back in your car and start driving. Please look out for motorists, bicycles, pedestrians, and joggers! Also, please look out for the turtles and other wildlife that may wander onto the roads! If you want a bit more nature, Springs Preserve is somewhat nearby. There's also Bonnie Springs, which is just a little rustic establishment on one of the off roads from Red Rock Canyon. The daily pass is $7, though I don't think you have in-out privileges (I could be wrong). You can basically stay on the loop the entire day, though, as long as you don't exit out all the way out of the gate and come back in. I do recommend hitting the Visitors Center for the bathrooms, gift shop, and just a rest stop. I do like Red Rock Canyon because hubby and I have found my spirit animal, the burro: grumpy, mean, but still cute! XD
