  • (Very detailed) I decided to treat myself to getting my nails done. I opted to get bio gel nails after a 3 year break from extensive damage from the use of motorized buffing tools. Upon doing research I learned that, that is essentially not the correct way to get them done. To preserve nail health light buffing with a manual buffing tool is best. I called prior and an extremely friendly gentleman ensured me this could be done. Upon my arrival I was greeted by the same gentleman who directed me to my designated nail tech. She initially was extremely friendly. Upon getting started I showed her a picture outlining the length I wanted as well as the shape desired I also outlined the color I wanted atop my nail. After doing so she brought out 2 sets of nails standard and french I was not really sure why given that I already indicated what I wanted. She asked me to pick one and I pick the one with the white tips (french manicure as I figured upon changing polish the nail would still look pretty good). After she finished glueing the nails on I asked if I shellac or regular polish was a better choice to place on these nails. She looked at me puzzled she and stated I could not put nail polish on these nails. I looked back at her just as puzzled because I clearly indicated, or at least I believes I had, that I wanted to paint my nail a very specific colour. She consulted one of her associated (in their language of course) and her associate seeing the slight annoyance on my face smiled and told me it would look nice. Seeing as I have not done my nails in years and I have no plans of doing my nails religiously (purely as a medium to garner a little length so I could start shellacking again and trying to keep the strength of my nail via "light buffing") I did not want to divert from my wanted look. Huge mistake. Because of this "miscommunication" the nails had to be removed filed to get the nail off, then filed again to to prepare the surface for the correct nail :(. With all that buffing my nail was paper thing. So much so that my nails hurt from simple applying pressure to reapply the tips. Even though I was I pleased I still tried to keep a positive attitude but things only got worse from there. I till out the photo once again and showed her the length and shape I wanted. She cut and asked me if the length was okay I said if this length is how you achieve the style I want yes. She went on to begin shaping the nail and asked me if it was okay I said no it does not look like the picture, she glanced at it and attempted another 3 times. At her frustration at not being able to achieve the style she began speaking about the length of my nail and how it would cost extra. I told her cost does not matter as long as you do a good job. She continued trying to achieve the desired shape but was just not getting it. She asked again if this shape was okay and I said it was fine because at this point I was reaching a boiling point and I had already been sitting with her for over an hour and they were closing shortly. I had also asked for a manicure at the beginning. I received the bare minimum. She pushed my cuticles back and clipped my cuticle without soaking my fingers or applying any form of lotion. It was painful to say the least. She began applying the bio gel to the nails four coats each coat followed by thirty second curing in uv light. After all the coats were applied I notice how uneven the coats were I did not mention anything as additional bugging followed. After the buffing 3 coats of shellac were applied with the same curing technique. All of this took two and a half hours. At this point I just wanted to get out of there as soon as possible. I paid and tipped more than was deserved given the end result. My nails had no uniform shape, it was not the shape i requested, the nails were uneven and my cuticles are a complete disaster cover in tiny open wounds. I was given a 10% discount at the register despite not complain I'm sure she sensed my displeasure. Given the overall cost 10% discount no where near compensated me for the horrendous mess that I call my nails. The single star was because despite how horrible the work was they were friendly. Needless to say I will not be returning to Mira's. Pictures of my oblong balloon shaped uneven nails will be posted.
