  • I have been mulling over whether or not I should write this review. (Clearly I decided to go with it, after all.) I like this hairstylist that I mention in the review as a person. She appears to be nice, and I'm sure that she means no harm. I probably would have been a customer for a long-time if she had not, well, screwed up my hair so disastrously. I simply had the unfortunately luck of dealing with a terrible, misshapen, uneven haircut. AHH!!!!! This is not a full service salon. I have never been offered a massage or beverage here. That said, it's located in the mall and it's convenient. It's clean. The front desk personnel has been the same thin, lanky female with a dark red cropped haircut for the past (possibly) 10 years. I don't remember her name but she appears to be nice enough. I have been here for haircuts a few times, usually with a junior stylist and without booking for an appointment. I don't want to pay that much, and I'm not what you call particular. I simply want a haircut that looks decent, and grow out well. And honestly, I prefer the Aveda Institute for its haircut value, but it's a bit of a trek for me since I moved. Anyway, I wasn't committed to a specific hairstylist until Alina. I received my first haircut with her sometime in 2012. I really liked it. It looked great simply washed and un-styled. The following haircut I got from her was great as well. She was quick, fast, and efficient and reasonably cheap. ($35 plus tax and tip = $50.) These two haircuts looked well enough to be somewhat comparable to what I received from Aveda ($28 plus tax and tip) and/or Civello (depends on hair and stylist). Then, I got another haircut from Alina. It was at around 7pm. I got the hint that she was tired, but I did not think on it. There was no input from me. All there was from Alina was a "how short" and "I think I know what you like" after the wash, and off she went chopping my hair off. I didn't object, since the last two haircuts I received from her were good. She *really* rushed my haircut this time. She appeared to not want to be there. She's usually fairly fast and efficient, so I didn't complain at the time. The haircut and wash was finished in under 20-30 minutes. Mind you, this includes the time I spent walking into the mall from the parking lot into the salon, the time waiting for Alina, then paying for my haircut, and walking back to my car in the parking lot. So, you can get the idea of how *RIDICULOUSLY* rushed this was. And so, I left and got home feeling satisfied that I finally got around to a haircut. I did not think about how rushed my haircut was. I was simply glad to have a haircut. Then when I looked in the mirror, one side of my hair was clearly and noticeably longer than the other! (1 inch +) I couldn't call the salon anymore since the mall was about the close, and/or was closed. I called first thing the next morning. I went back the next day to try and get it fixed, and the staff was reasonably understandable about it. I had to come here on my lunch break to get it fixed with Alina. I did not have to re-pay to even the haircut out. This was a good. Alina appeared to be nice about it, and told me that I could come back again until the haircut was cut right. She took some scissors to even it out. This took all of 1-2 minutes. It was not a good a job. I left and went to work again only to find thin chunks of longer strands (contrasted against the shorter length). It was not even properly evened out! At this point, I gave up. I figured my hair would grow. It's hair. But, it bothered me for some time. It drove me nuts. I could not look into a mirror without recoiling in horror. It simply did not look right. So, I searched online for a new hairstylist to book an appointment. My cheap haircut here turned out to be costing more than twice the price of a high-end salon's. So much for fast, cheap, quick, and efficient. Urgh. And the problem with my last haircut with Alina? One side was cut evenly (straight) and the other side was layered. WTF??!?!! No wonder it did not look right! And when this other hairstylist explained this to me, flashes of Alina inattentively cutting my hair came across my mind. [Image: Alina. Snip, snip, snip! Done! You had a haircut in all of two seconds!] You can find something better in the dozens of cheap Chinese hair salons at $8-10 for the haircut I received. I could have placed a bowl on top of my head and started cutting for the haircut I received. The explanation simply infuriated me more. I am unsure if Alina has more up from being a junior hairstylist. I no longer saw the junior hairstylist sign in the front of the salon. But buyer beware! She's a nice girl that can cut your hair wonderfully, but also give you the shittiest haircut of a lifetime. Do not come here simply because it's convenient. Go downtown. Pay the extra cash. It's not worth the trouble to deal with the stress I had experienced.
