| - Gotta admit, my expectations for the food were really low walking in as a lot of reviews praised this place more for the experience/atmosphere and nostalgia rather than the food. We were happy that we experienced the best of both tonight. My husband and I are both chefs in Vegas, not judgy up tight chefs, we're pretty easy to please. We got:
All you can drink red wine: 3/5
I'm pregnant so I didn't indulge in this part of the meal. I had a couple sips and it was pretty watered down like a boxed wine. But don't get me wrong. If there wasn't a baby in my belly I would have slammed it down. Why not
House salad- 4/5
I was expecting a run of the mill iceberg salad but was surprised when it came with a sexy mix of lettuces. Dressing is prefect, salad was crunchy and satisfying.
Garlic bread- 3.5/5 kind of tasted like processed garlic bread. It tastes like they took the garlic and herb seasoning packet you get in Pasta Roni and baked it on the bread with butter. The old college kid in me loves some Pasta Roni so I dug it. Was good to mop up extra dressing from my salad and sauce from my entree.
Chicken Parmesan- 4/5
10 oz breaded chicken breast topped w/ melted mozzarella, marinara (I think the marinara might just come from a can, but it was decent) and creamed spinach. They typically serve it with a side of penne marinara but I asked for fettuccine Alfredo ($2.50 up charge) instead as I knew there would be plenty of marinara already on my plate. Here's a great tip, mix your creamed spinach in with the fettuccine Alfredo, sooooo good! The plate was solid, simple and to the point. Nothing out of the ordinary but it was satisfying for sure. Enough for two people.
Shrimp scampi- 4/5
Generous portion of shrimp and pasta, comes with mushrooms and lots of garlic, butter and fresh lemon which gave it a nice zip. I was surprised at how well seasoned and flavorful it was since other reviews said it was bland. Would definitely order again.
After dinner "cappuccino"- 4/5
I'm pretty sure there's no coffee in here, but it was damn good! Tasted like Mexican hot chocolate w/ cinnamon. I love the old school mugs they serve it in too.
I'm so mad at myself that after living in Vegas for 12 years, this is the first time I've been to Battistas. Will definitely be back.
