| - I wanted to give three stars, because my actual experience as a rider was relatively painless. I purchased tickets online, with plans to travel from Pittsburgh to Cincinnati, and back a few days later. I opted for Greyhound instead of driving my own vehicle, as I did not want to put the mileage on my leased car.
I ended up with a change in my work schedule that allowed me to leave earlier on Friday (1/15) than originally planned. I already knew that I would be paying $20 to exchange my ticket, but I called Customer Service to find out whether or not I needed a physical copy of my ticket to do so at the station; I didn't want to waste the paper if it wasn't necessary. Well, I was lied to by the phone representative who said that my ID and confirmation number would be sufficient for the exchange, which I learned to be false after driving to the station, paying for parking, and being treated poorly by the counter service employee. He "did not understand how" I "let someone" tell me I wouldn't need the actual ticket, as if that someone was not a Greyhound employee, but the neighborhood drug dealer or a similarly questionable individual. I was able to reach a helpful person (LH) on Twitter (@GHoundBusHelp), who determined that I was given false information and offered a refund of my exchange fee. I gave it a week and still no sign of that refund, so I remain skeptical of Greyhound's commitment to providing satisfactory customer service.
I arrived at the station early and found the restrooms to be ... less than stellar, to put it nicely. The toilet in the stall to my left was leaking, which I discovered when the user flushed and water began gushing into my stall. Luckily, I was able to get out before any of it reached me or my bags. I was first in line and able to board first; this bus was not crowded and I also enjoyed the seats to myself. This station also offers indoor waiting and refreshment amenities.
The rest of the trip went pretty smoothly, and we were only delayed (overall) by about ten minutes, which is probably par for the course. My return trip was actually ahead of schedule, and we did not experience any issues in either direction. I did observe some confusion during transfers, as some folks were directed to the incorrect boarding areas, thought I do not believe any of them ended up missing their transfer because of this.
I am giving Greyhound another go in a few weeks (same destination/return path), mostly because I purchased tickets for both trips in November and do not want to waste the money I've already spent. Though I am thankful not to have experienced any of the examples of what could go very wrong with a bus trip, satisfaction with a company's service should not be based on whether or not something terrible happened while you were in the care of said service.
