| - As an adult getting braces, I had a lot of apprehensions, especially after going to two consultations at other orthodontists that didn't give me any level of comfort that they could straighten my teeth. I had lost hope that I would find an Orthodontist that would take my case when MCO was recommended by my dentist. MCO did such a wonderful job of making braces a good experience. I hope my account of my experience will help other adults who are thinking about getting braces.
When I arrived at the MCO office, I was greeted warmly by the team and a full assessment was done right on the spot. Pictures and xrays were taken and then Dr Tam did a thorough assessment of my situation. The atmosphere and the professionalism really helped me make a very quick decision. Also, seeing the number of adults in the office for appointments, helped solidify my confidence that Dr Tam was very experienced with adult braces. I opted for the regular metal braces as the actual brackets were smaller than what I had imagined. Once I signed on, a mold was made of my teeth and a few weeks later, I got my braces on.
I was anticipating pain and discomfort on the day the braces went on (based on stories from my friends), but it wasn't the case. Of course there was pressure on the teeth b/c extra weight was being added but I was more fascinated by the process. I was impressed by the techniques and the level of efficiency and couldn't help but tell everyone at my office about it.
Within the first few appointments, there was a noticeable improvement to the alignment of my teeth. I got immediate gratification by seeing the progress. There was some discomfort when the wires were changed but it was bearable. The technicians always explained what they were doing so that I could anticipate the next procedure. As weird as it may sound, I can honestly say that I looked forward to seeing the team when my appointments came up.
Everyone at MCO is always more than wiling to help. I had a bracket come loose unexpectedly on a Saturday and I saw Dr Tam twitter that he was in the office, so I called and got an appointment to get it fixed that day. I was so impressed that they could fit me in on such short notice. MCO is on Facebook and on Twitter so you can always stay up to date on the news there.
The MCO office itself is a lot of fun. There are flat screen tvs on the wall to keep you entertained while wires are being replaced, a room where there are video games and they have frozen yogurt for you as you leave the office. There are also on-going contests/prizes for all the patients. They really know how to put the fun into everything!
My journey took 2.5 years (I had a cross bit and severely crooked teeth) but it was well worth it. The team always welcomed me with a smile and because of MCO, now I have a fabulous smile!
THANKS, MCO!!!!
