| - The new holiday latte, Chestnut latte and Sweet and Spiced, are so much better than the sugary mint ones at Starbucks. This cafe serves more than great coffee! It includes lucious sweets and light lunches as well. My visit here did not disappoint and is definitely my go to place for coffee in Yorkdale now.
The store is located on the second level in the new food court area and it has a great open space that allows you to look down onto the 'courtyard' lobby. Seating is not so plentiful but it's secluded from the large food court so it's quieter in addition to being cleaner. When we went, it was 90% filled around 1 pm. There isn't a traditional waitstaff but they do take away your dishes and clean the tables quite thoroughly when you're ready to leave.
I ordered a Chestnut latte, a chocolate croissant, cannoli (small), americano, and a hot chocolate for our small group. I should have order more food as someone devoured the cannoli in under a minute. She normally doesn't like cannoli's as they're filled with cream (instead of ricotta) and just overloaded with sugar with a soggy crust. The textures and overheightened sweetness puts her off. This cannoli is possibly the best cannoli I've had out of a mall. The cannoli had that great shatter of a freshly made shell. It wasn't too hard from being over fried but had that perfect balance of crispiness without being too thick and crunchy. The filling was REAL ricotta cheese! What a pleasant surprise. It had that nice light tangy taste but was lightly sweetened. I grabbed a mini bite before my toddler took everything of it. The chocolate croissant was also very nice. Buttery, crispy and shattered lightly under a small bite, and good amount of dark chocolate inside. The hot chocolate was more chocolate than sugar (yay!) and the latte I had was wonderful. A warm nuttiness was the perfect compliment to the low acidity but bold coffee flavour. It played wonderfully with my usual caffiene requirement and makes me wish they kept it the entire year. The americano was fantastic as well. It wasn't overly water, wasn't bitter or heavily acidic, and had a great bold flavour that you'd expect.
This place is more expensive than Tim Horton's but I feel the flavours and quality is significantly higher than your average mall fare. I will come back over and over to try their seasonal flavours since they're unique (no usual pumpkin spice or candy cane flavours) and have lots of nice little treats to savour. I highly recommend this place!
