  • If you are looking for something unique, or would like to relive some old fashioned customs of the past, then I highly recommend taking your date or family to the Belmont Drive-In theater. It's off the Belmont exit on I-85, and can be hard to find so make sure you check out their website and get precise directions. This place just reopened in July which is later in the season than normal but it is officially back and is still in family owned and operated hands. For only $4.00 per person you get two back to back movies with a short intermission in between. The movies have no official start time, they usually kick off around dusk, so check the local sunset and arrive accordingly. The format is often a kids movie early on, and then afterwards an adult movie often Rated R. After the first show ends, all of the carloads with kids leave and the capacity is cut about 60%. So if you didn't get a good spot with your car for the early movie, you will be able to move your car for the second showing. They practically make all of their money off concessions so I would help them out and check out the menu. We have ordered their burgers, hot dogs, corn dogs, and fries and they were all pretty good. There will be a long concession line if you wait till intermission or before the movie starts, but if you sneak off in the middle of the show there will be little to no people there. Alcohol is not allowed, but I can't think of a time we haven't taken some in. You basically enter in your car by a tollbooth type area, and they take your money for the movie based on the number of people in your car. They do not search your car or check for any bottles etc. We have taken our dog before, but he is behaved and not yappy. I am not sure of their rules, so I would call before driving all the way down there with yours. The audio for the movie is broadcast to a local FM station, so you just tune in your stereo and control the volume level as you see fit. I have seen some locals that have literally designed the ultimate drive in vehicle, with a surround system, pillows, bedding and cup holders in the bed of their truck. More power to them, if I lived closer I may be tempted to do the same. One last thing to note, be ready for a long night if you are doing the double feature. Since the first movie doesn't kick off till dusk, the last movie will not end till 1AM or later. You won't leave there thinking this is an ideal place to watch new movies, but we have always enjoyed our visits, and return a couple times a year just for the nostalgia.
