| - Yes, yes I know I tend to give out five stars too readily much to the discerning chagrin of veterans like Jen K and Wayne C, but what can I say? I either vacillate between LOVE or HATE. Having said that Drift has left an excellent impression upon me, and here's the reasons why I LOVED it:
*The Vegetarian friendly menu*
The Menu was a concise and well edited selection of noms and much to my delight about 50 percent of the offerings were Veggie friendly, not to mention deliciously executed which is so refreshing!
My entrée consisted of a mushroom Ragu with Polenta and Parmesan which was incredibly richly flavored. The headiness of the mushroom stock blended seamlessly with the delicately flaky yet very flavorful Parmesan flakes with a nice bit of crunch from the crust of the baked polenta. The Cucumber Gazpacho was also incredibly fresh tasting with hints of cilantro which blended beautifully with the small chunks of perfectly sweet watermelon interspersed within the cucumber pureed suspension.
Hubby ordered, well actually I forget what he ordered, something meaty sandwiched between bread no doubt, that was probably "really good" (his words) but he did also order a side of perfectly grilled Brussels Sprouts, let me tell you for a guy that's survived on ribs and wings for a (nearly) half a century he was so pleased with those Brussels sprouts I swear he talked about them the whole time we were at Drift and dude does not talk much when we eat out, so that's gotta be good!
*Very quick, efficient and well informed service*
There was one server and one bartender and between the two of them they held the ship down "Like a Bawse" considering it was a full house on a Saturday night. And anyone who knows me, knows I can be a stickler for asking so many questions about the menu like I should be a character on Portlandia fer chrissakes! But, I never once felt rushed, annoyed or that I had inconvenienced our server or felt the service was ingenuine, just really great service all around! Bravo!
*Chilled out unpretentious space and crowd* 'Nuff said
*Pricing within reach*
I realize the Far West location of Drift plays a part in pricing, but for the quality of service, the terrific food and presentation there are many, MANY downtown establishments who shall remain nameless that should take notes, because Drift really gets it!
For a restaurant with a fleeting name, Drift sure do have their feet firmly planted! So get your ass to the west end and treat yourself to the intimate and flavourful charms of Drift.
