| - Not great. During college I had the fortune of having four Thai restaurants next door to each other, spanning all levels of fanciness, authenticity, and price range. Also I had a close Thai friend who frequently came with me, so I feel like I have a good idea of what makes good Thai food. Thus, my hopefully informed verdict of Sa-Bai Thong is that it's underwhelming.
My standard order whenever I'm at a new Thai place is: chicken coconut soup and either a sweet-and-sour fish, pad thai, or massamam curry. I've had all of these at some point, and I don't find them exceptional. I thought the chicken coconut soup should be more savory. The fish sauce was a bit too thick and sweet. The pad thai, being so common, was not better than somewhere cheaper. And the massamam curry was again not savory enough, and I am almost certain that peas do not belong in it.
I like Thai food in general, and since I also live really close, I've kept telling myself to give this place another try. But time and time again, I keep coming home disappointed. Don't make the same mistake I did.
