We had a very enjoyable first time dinner at Lotus of Siam. We were a party of 2 and I took the advice of other Yelpers and made reservations to avoid the infamous wait times. I've been wanting to eat here ever since the good prophet Mr. Anthony Bourdain sang its praises many seasons ago on his show. Northern Thai cuisine he said. He said go straight to the back of the menu where all these Northern specialties are found. That I did...
We were seated right when we walked in as I had told them we had reservations. We were seated near the wine room. First impression of Lotus of Siam was that it is big and it is busy. Very busy. Our reservations were for 8pm so there wasnt a big group of people waiting outside to be seated but there were some.
We ordered the khao soi crispy duck ($26.95) and the garlic prawns ($27.95) as suggested and urged by Anthony Bourdain. He was not lying. The duck is so crispy and delicious. That first bite was something else. Wowww.... Amazing. The egg noodles & perfectly crispy duck on top of that curry & coconut cream was a delicious combination. Now I know what the fuss is all about. So good... We also ordered the garlic prawns. They were crispy and deliciously fried still in their shell split in half. You have to get it. It was also so very good. Aside from those 2 dishes we just had white rice to accompany them and we were golden. That's all we needed. A glass of wine for the lady. A soda for me... Sa-tis-fied..
Service was decent. Felt a little rushed at first as we were total rookies but they warmed up after a while and turned out to be attentive and friendly. I cant wait to go back to Lotus of Siam the next time we're in town.
Parking is in a big shared lot. It is kind of dark once the sun goes down. Make reservations. It's a must. And order what Anthony Bourdain tells you. Always...
