| - I will stick to reviewing what I know well: fruit and vegetable plants and seeds. Having made MANY trips to every nursery/home improvement/garden store in the city, I consider myself a bit of an expert in these areas!
Seeds: Golden Acre stocks many brands of seeds, giving you ample choice for all the fruit, veggie and flower types you've ever heard of, pus dozens that you haven't heard of. They have a great selection of rare seeds, although several of the seeds they sell can't be grown in our short season. I wish they would keep these seeds separate, and clearly indicate that you'll need a heated greenhouse to grow them successfully. Prices are pretty standard, as they're marked on the package and don't vary by store. Their seed potatoes and onion/garlic sets are way overpriced, but the selection is good. I wish they would carry a line of local seeds.
Veggie plants and seedlings: their selection is a bit hit or miss; some years I find dozens of pepper varieties and leave with many more plants than I have space for, and other years they only sell the basic varieties. I've asked when the best time to shop is, but they don't have an answer. Prices are higher compared to other garden stores, but can be worth it if they've got better selection.
Overall, the store is gorgeous, and you can easily spend a day there discovering new things. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable.
